Nursing is a noble profession and an incredibly rewarding career path. Nurses not only save people's lives but they offer compassion and kindness to people in need They are often a source of comfort, safety, and security for many people.
1. Personal development
Invest in yourself, don't stop at where you are. You can improve your nursing skills through additional learning, attending workshops and seminars or advance academically. These helps open up more gates of opportunities.
2. Consider Specialising
In Nursing, there are so many specialties to choose from eg Perioperative, Accident and Emergency, Cardiothoracic, Mental health/psychiatry, etc. Pick one and make yourself valuable.
3. Gain more Experience
You can agree with me that the more experienced you're, the more valuable you are. Always be willing to learn, unlearn and relearn at all times and take up positions and responsibilities.
4. Get a mentor
A mentor can help provide guidance through challenges and confusion. It can be a senior colleague who is well experienced or a successful nurse whom you admire. He/she will help you grow as you learn from him/her and make important choices in your career.
5. Be a team player
Great nurses are great team players. Besides, how can you learn from others when you can't work with them? Collaborate with other nurses and other health care professionals. Be kind and helpful, it also helps you build good relationships.
6. Stay healthy Taking care of others starts with taking care of yourself. For you to be successful, you need to be healthy both physically and mentally. Take enough rest, set boundaries and acknowledge your needs.
